Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Scope

Contributions will be drawn from biology, botany, environmental chemistry, climatology, ecology, ecological economics, fisheries, forest sciences, geosciences, public health, sustainability sciences, zoology, and a variety of other disciplines, often in combinations determined by interdisciplinary study.

It also covers the areas of toxicity and toxicology of environmental pollutants in air, dust, sediment, soil and water, and natural toxins in the environment. Topics of particular interest include: toxic or biologically disruptive impacts of anthropogenic chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, industrial organics, agricultural chemicals, and by-products such as chlorinated compounds from water disinfection and waste incineration; natural toxins and their impacts; biotransformation and metabolism of toxigenic compounds, food chains for toxin accumulation or biodegradation; assays of toxicity, endocrine disruption, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, ecosystem impact and health hazard; and environmental and public health risk assessment, environmental guidelines, environmental policy for toxicants.

It will publish peer-reviewed original research articles, reviews and short communications in the mentioned broad research areas.

 Manuscript preparation and submission

English language is the accepted language for submission of manuscripts to AEHST. The manuscript should be formatted in MS Word, typewritten in Times New Roman (12 point font size) and double-spaced on A4 leaving 1” wide margin on all sides. Latin names should be in italics, and S.I. units should be used for measurements or quantifications.

Title page

This contains the manuscript title and authors’ information. The title must be brief and should reflect the content of the paper. The full names (surnames last) of the authors and their affiliations are stated. The e-mails and phone numbers of the corresponding author should be provided.

Abstract

An abstract of not more than 250 words should be provided. It should be structured as follows: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions. This is followed by up to five (5) keywords.

Introduction

This section gives the background of the study, and sufficient references are properly made to earlier works.  Justification and purpose of the present study should as well be stated.

Materials and Methods

This section describes detailed experimental procedure which may allow for reproducibility; that is, hypothesis, techniques and equipment.

Results and discussion

Results and discussion may be combined in a section or given separately. Results may be presented using either Tables or Figures. The discussion should present the significance and implications of the results, relating the results to previous works properly cited.

Conclusion

This section gives a conclusion drawn from the study. The conclusion should be related to the achievement of the aims and objectives of the study. Recommendations (if any) may be stated.

Acknowledgement

All grants and other supports should be acknowledged.

References

Citations in the text should follow ‘Surname and Year’ format. E.g. Awodara (2023); Brightman and Crown (2022); Crown et al. (2021); Collins (2020) reported that … All references cited must be listed at the reference section:

Journals: The surnames of all authors followed by initials, year of publication, title of work, journal name, volume, issue, and pages should be given. E.g. Brightman V.N. and Crown O.T. (2022). Atmospheric pollutant concentrations in Ondo Town. Advances in Environmental  Health Sciences and Toxicology 8 (2): 19-44.

Books: Must mention the authors, publisher, place, year of publication, edition, names of editors and page numbers.

Editorial Policy

Scope and Focus

Advances in Environmental Health Sciences and Toxicology (AEHST) is an official publication of the University of Medical Sciences Ondo. The journal publishes original research articles and review articles from any areas stated in the scope. Articles to be considered for publication must be original, novel, or a critical review and must have a significant contribution to knowledge.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts should not exceed 15 pages in length including references, Tables, Figures, graphs, charts, and illustrations. They must be typed double-spaced. The font type shall be Times New Roman with 12 font size.

Articles are sent electronically via the journal submission system or email address at editor.aehst@unimed.edu.ng. An article should have an abstract of not more than 250 words and should be structured as follows: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. This is followed by up to five (5) keywords that characterize the content of the paper.

The current American Psychological Association (APA) style of referencing must be adopted by the contributors.

Peer Review Process

Articles sent for publication shall be subjected to a standard double-blind peer review by three reviewers. The Editorial Board compares the reviewers’ reports before acceptability, and gives out the reviewed manuscripts to the authors for corrections as recommended by the reviewers. Our team of expert reviewers evaluates the scientific validity, originality, and significance of each submission. From submission to acceptance, the process takes about three months.

Appeals Process

Authors can appeal editorial decisions if they believe there has been an error or misunderstanding. They can send their appeal to the editorial office.

Retraction and Corrections

Corrected manuscripts sent back for consideration are thoroughly checked to ensure that the contributors make all the necessary corrections as observed by the reviewers before the articles are finally accepted for publications.

In the event of discovery of errors, misconduct, or other issues that may compromise the integrity of the research, the authors may retract their article by informing the editorial office.

Publication Ethics

All authors, by submitting their manuscripts bear the collective responsibility for ensuring the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the data presented in their articles. This includes a commitment to verifying the authenticity of the research findings, the accuracy of the data reported, and the appropriateness of the methodologies employed.

Authors are accountable for the intellectual content of their work, encompassing the opinions, interpretations, and comments expressed in their articles. It is imperative that authors conduct a thorough and honest assessment of their research, ensuring that any statements made are supported by the data presented and adhere to the highest standards of academic and scientific integrity.

By submitting their manuscripts, authors acknowledge their understanding and adherence to these principles, reinforcing the collaborative effort to uphold the highest standards of scientific rigor and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing.

The University of Medical Sciences journal of Advances in Environmental Health Sciences and Toxicology upholds a commitment to fostering a culture of academic honesty and transparency. Any breach of ethical standards, including plagiarism, impersonation, data fabrication, or falsification, will be rigorously addressed in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Editorial office. Such authors shall be dully reported to appropriate authorities for Infringement of intellectual property and shall attract further litigation. Every article received is therefore subjected to a standard plagiarism check.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors are expected to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation or presentation of their research. This transparency is essential to maintaining the credibility and trustworthiness of the scholarly contributions published in our journal.

 Frequency of Publication

The journal publishes bi-annually.
